AVID aims to provide students with the skills to be successful college applicants and members of an international community.AVID, Advancement Via Individual Determination, is a college readiness system for elementary through higher education that is designed to increase schoolwide learning and performance. The AVID College Readiness System (ACRS) accelerates student learning, uses research based methods of effective instruction, provides meaningful and motivational professional learning, and acts as a catalyst for systemic reform and change.

Course Description:
The AVID course focuses on the integral aspects of collaborative learning, leadership, and writing skills. The AVID elective creates an educational environment in which students are able to:

  • Receive guidance for the rigorous curriculum of the IB program
  • Take advantage of time given for school work in which they cancollaborate with their peers
  • Research and prepare for a four year college education
  • Meet with college representatives
  • Learn proper work ethic and integrity

Freshman/Sophomore AVID Requisites: Enrollment in an Honors or Advanced Class
Senior Seminar AVID Requisites: Enrollment in at least one International Baccalaureate class.
Course Duration: Two semesters (second semester of junior year, first semester of senior year).
Type of Graduation Credit Earned: Elective
